Future of work – data, AI and workers

A session hosted by Dr Christina Colclough and Andrew Pakes
Prospect Union

The rise of AI and new technology is changing the world of work. The growth of automation, employee surveillance, concerns about bias in algorithms and the changing nature of jobs are all challenges we need to address.

The current crisis has not paused the pace of change – it has accelerated it.

This session will look at where workers fit into the future of work. Who are AI and new technology accountable to? And who decides?

How do we manage the transition from the old economy to new tech driven jobs and industries?

Where do workers voices fit into AI and the data economy – from data rights through machine learning and bias in decision making.

Workers, civic groups and unions are becoming more active in debates around tech for good – this session will look at some of the reasons why, and how unions are getting organised.
